If you’ve ever seen me out ‘n’ about, you may have noted I like to wear a lot of vintage, but I always ground it with something modern be it my shoes, a pencil skirt or handbag. I found a site the must of have read my mind in this approach to style. ModCloth features a mix of new clothes that are modern, some that look vintage and some that are actually vintage. They appeal of my sense of mixing it up.

Make It Funky!

As they say, “the girl can’t help it” and sometimes I just have to blow off some steam and DANCE. I finally found a place that offers a night full of great music, a huge dancefloor, and laid back cool people where I can get my groove on. Funky Sole at The Echo offers a heaping dose of late ‘60s and ‘70s-era music every Saturday night. I recently met up with my gal pals, Fabby and Barni, and we claimed our corner of the dance floor to shimmy and undulate.

If you need a little inspiration on your footwork, the club projects old episodes of the TV show, “Soul Train” on the stage’s big screen. The crowd is friendly and gives you space to do your thang without bumping into you. There is a mix of styles there from casual Silver Lake scenesters to funkiphiles flashing some serious fashion sense to more edgy alt rockers.

Pro Beauty Tips: False Eyelashes

Need a beauty boost? Why not start the New Year wearing glamorous, flirty lashes? Whether you’re a regular false eyelash wearer or someone who’s been wanting to try them but doesn’t know where to start, I have some tips for you!

I met celebrity makeup artist Elle Leary at an Ulta Beauty demonstration for Eylure Lashes and not only did she make me up with fun Katy Perry lashes, she had some awesome tips for applying lashes (and was a super nice person to boot!) So I just had to interview her to find out all of her pro tips and we dished on an exciting new lash line Katy Perry has in store for you in January!

Spin Out: Get Your Sunday Night Groove On!

Whenever I can get my groove on to get dressed up and hang with my pals, it’s a good night. Throw in some ‘60s soul and mod and it’s a great night. That’s why I like hanging at Spin Out. Taking place at Footsie’s once a month, it’s a low key bar, with a little dance floor, a pool table, a patio, some round booths and great DJs. Plus it’s an early evening, starting at 5 p.m. for us workin’ gals to still be able get their party on. And did I mention great music? The DJs spin goodl ol’ vinyl with awesome sounds from psychedelic to garage to soul and mod. It’s my kind of place! Check out the party pix:

Ke$ha: A Party Girl Who Works It!

I’m always one to respect a party girl who knows how to work a room like she’s running a business. To me that’s what singer Ke$ha represents. She’s made female bravado, DIY club fashions and big dance floor beats a profession that can earn you serious cash and take you around the world – now that’s living!

Ke$sha caught my attention with her hit, “TiK ToK’ and I liked her glitter and whisky-soaked, up-all-night swagger and unique party-chatter lyrics. With her newest album, she throws in a bit more rock ‘n’ roll attitude and even some punk, pulling in Godfather of rebel riffs, Iggy Pop (who I love!)

If that’s not enough, she also released a book, “My Crazy Beautiful Life,”* which gives an inside look at her humble childhood as the kid of a single-parent, songwriting mother, roaming the streets of Hollywood as a teenager and later touring the world and settling in to record a second album.

PARTY PIX: Vintage Vortex 5 Opening Party

I love a good opening party, especially when it involves vintage clothing, memorabilia and some of LA’s coolest retro-lovin’ scenesters. This past weekend I found myself at the opening of Vintage Vortex 5, a new space on Sunset in Los Feliz that features a collection of vintage vendors selling their best stuff. I spotted amazing handbags and shoes, a collection of vintage lunch boxes, a Barbie ballerina bag, a mod checkered shoe bag, ‘60s and ‘70s evening gowns, sweet ‘50s pleated dresses, and Cher-worthy fringed numbers.

But best of all I spotted some great people! Check out the party pix:
