It’s Movember: Do You Have Your Mustache On?

k150_23SZDheel iconHappy Movember! That’s mustache-November in case you were wondering, a movement for men start growing some serious facial hair to raise awareness of men’s health issues including prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges.

I became all too aware of prostate cancer while my father battled it – twice! Fortunately, through catching it early and the advances in medical treatment, he survived and is doing well.

So while us ladies can’t exactly grow a mustache for the movement, we can join in the Movember spirit with mustache accessories like the ones below.

Oh and be supportive of your man as he grows out his ‘stache. Yes, it prickles when you kiss him and it may look a little funny, but it’s all for a good cause!

And now I must-tache!

ReVamp Vintage / What Katie Did Burlesque Fashion Show

k150_23SZDheel iconLadies, how many times have you felt your lingerie is so pretty, you just wish everyone could see it?  That’s definitely the case with What Katie Did Lingerie – the retro-inspired lingerie brand that recreates the sexy looks of silver screen starlets of the ‘40s and ‘50s. They recently paired with one of my favorite vintage reproduction designers, ReVamp Vintage, for a fashion show unlike any other.

Click the video below to see the show!

The catwalk took the form of a classic burlesque routine. Models provided a seductive but elegant and playful tease – we’re keeping it PG folks! – showing off ReVamp dresses and pantsuits on the outside, then stripping down to their What Katie Did Lingerie underneath. It was a great way to showcase both designers – and as expected, the crowd went wild!

Look of the Day: Faux Fur Punk

k150_23SZDheel iconIn my personal style, I like to mix things up. It’s usually a combination of looks I’ve always been attracted to: punk, mod, elegant vintage and modern trends. Today I was feeling some punky women’s fashion. With the weather turning cooler, it’s time to pull out a fluffy, faux-fur vest, pencil skirt and some fun checkered boots. I added a funky statement necklace and bold lipstick.

Vest purchased at TopShop London.  Boots from Amazon.com.

LA Fashion Week 2013 Wrap-Up

k150_23SZDheel iconLA Fashion Week was a colorful, textured display of creative talent. I have to hand it to fashion designers – it’s not easy getting a collection off the ground and putting on a show. I attended shows nearly every night of the weeklong affair and saw so many pretty and unique takes on style for the 2014 Spring/ Summer season for women’s fashion.

Many of the shows were major productions with music acts and performance artists coming out between runway walks. It was awe-inspiring to see the slinky professional models doing their best catwalk but I also enjoyed the more edgy vibe of Mad Girl Productions’ Sugar Art & Fashion Show where the models were encouraged to show a little rebel personality or do some wild primal dances (it does make it a little harder to get pictures of the clothes however!)

Click here to see a video of my three tops picks for designs I would most want to own: Sue Wong, Nuvula, and Emily Daccarett.

Here is some of the eye candy from the week:

LA Fashion Week 2013: My Three Top Picks

k150_23SZDheel iconLA Fashion Week has been happening all over Tinsel Town this week with fashion shows from Downtown to Hollywood. My dance card has been rather full trying to hit as many events as possible to check some well-known and emerging designers. Lots of women’s fashion ideas for Spring/Summer 2014. Each event has been its own creative feast for the eyes and I must say the people watching in the audience has been almost as entertaining. The fashion crowd knows how to pull out some style! I saw a lot of bling, stilettos and general “bring it” attitude. A nice change from going out and seeing people in flip-flops and track suits (which pains my eyes!)

Most of the shows have featured several designer showcases back to back and few music acts and performance artists to mix things up. While some fashion collections I was admittedly underwhelmed by, three stood out to me for ultra unique silhouettes, interesting cuts, use of textures and patterns. And of course, my picks all seem to have a little retro influence (what can I say, I love that!) but use it in very modern, wearable ways.

My favorites included:

Stay tuned for a full report of all the shows I saw during during LA Fashion Week!

Stay stylish,

Get the Look: Modcloth’s Bea + Dot!

k150_23SZDheel iconIf you’ve been wanting to add some personality to your wardrobe, look no further than Modcloth, the brand known for their retro inspired fashion. They just launched two NEW private labels of women’s clothing!

In my previous post, I showed how-to put together a look with Myrtlewood. Today, I styled a look around Bea+Dot, a playful line that can be worn out ‘n’ about during the day or for fun nights out with the girls or clubbing.

Here’s how to style a look around a Bea+Dot dress from Modcloth:

The fun, A-line silhouette and detailing of the “Playing Tagline” dress* will give you a mod look in a wearable way that can take you from your day job to a nightclub. Pair with some accessories that embrace your inner child such as a smiling handbag*, owl wallet* and pencil bracelet.* The chic tortoiseshell sunglasses* will protect your eyes, while a pop of bright red, patent wedges* on your toes keep you grounded.
